Let's learn about the Periodic Table!

Description

In this course learners will practise reading off the periodic table and also writing chemical symbols. Learners will become familiar with states of elements in their natural forms and properties of metals.

This is an exciting course for those learners who want to grow in their knowledge of chemistry at an early start and have a heads into the structure of popular compounds and their unique properties.

Most of the content is UK curriculum based and there is loads of content for learners in areas they would like to practise.

Learning Goal
  • Learners will understand the difference between a group and a period and be able to write the chemical symbol of any element found in a given group and period
Language Conducted
  • English
Requirement
  • a periodic table
Home Work
  • Homework will be provided for lessons
External Resources
  • Cambridge Checkpoint Y8 textbook (provided)
  • Extra worksheets

  • 50 mins each week
Outcome
  • Learners are expected to know the difference between an element and a compound
  • Learners should be able to write the ratios of elements in popular compounds like ammonia, water and carbon dioxide
  • learners should be able to write compounds using writing rules and know how to write a diatomic molecule in symbol form

Meet Course teacher

Hi there!
I am currently a maths boffin, experiment craving and nature-loving teacher. I have many passions and some of them, creative. I have worked in different careers because I enjoy meeting all kinds of people and learning new things. I have gained experience as a fine dining waiter as well as a commercial diver. I have a degree in Marine Biology and Ocean and Atmospheric science!

In 2017, I went on two research trips out in the open Ocean, one in the South Atlantic and the other in the Southern Ocean – yes, I have been to Antarctica, it is magnificent!
Now I run my own online tutoring business, where I can help mentor and shape students’ minds to understand and enjoy maths. One thing I love about my lessons is that I can make them funny by using humour and jokes in the lessons, this is always helps to make maths and science fun!

When I am not tutoring, you will find me in the ocean, either surfing, diving or on the beach watching the sunset. Other hobbies of mine include playing guitar at church and cooking, but mostly just eating :P

I hope to see you in one of my classes!
