Your children will participate actively in their math, English/ESL, reading, coding, and board game classes with me. Physical activity, mental activity, and creativity will combine to keep your children engaged in learning. I will ask questions. I will encourage your children to think, solve problems, and share ideas. I have a huge collection of manipulatives for teaching math and English and my students are encouraged to bring their own. I love games and try to incorporate them into the learning process as well.
I wanted to become a teacher the day I began kindergarten. My younger brother was my first student. Even though I had a post-university computer career, I always found ways to include teaching in my life. I trained product users, taught computer classes, tutored, formed a computer club for middle school girls, taught swimming, and I even volunteered to help inner-city children learn to ski, mountain bike, and paddle a canoe. I love celebrating my students' successes with them as they conquer things that had been daunting. I live in Costa Rica now. I faced my own daunting challenge by moving to a new country and learning Spanish. It has given me great empathy and patience to gently guide my students towards success.
I have played all kinds of games since I was young. As an adult, I can see how game playing helped build my math, verbal, strategic and visual thinking, and problem-solving skills. I also learned how to win and lose graciously. But, perhaps most importantly, I developed a love of learning and challenges.
