Description

This class is set up to help the student achieve success in middle school math and prepares them for 8th grade or pre-algebra math.

Week 1: Measure Figures: Circumference, Area of Circles and Composite Figures
Week 2: Measure Figures: Volume of Prisms and Pyramids, Surface Area of Prisms and Pyramids, Volume and Surface Area of Composite Figures
Week 3: Probability: Probability of Simple Events, Theoretical & Experimental Probability
Week 4: Probability: Probability of Compound Events, Simulations, Fundamental Counting Principle
Week 5: Probability: Permutations, Independent and Dependent Events
Week 6: Statistics: Make Predictions, Unbiased & Biased Samples, Misleading Graphs and Statistics
Week 7: Statistics: Real Numbers: Rational. Numbers, Powers & Exponents, Multiply & Divide Monomials
Week 8: Real Numbers: Powers of Monomials, Negative Exponents, Scientific Notation, Roots
Week 9: Rational Numbers: Equations in One Variable: Solve Equations with Rational Coefficients, Solve and Write Two-Step Equations
Week 10: Equations in One Variable: Solve Equations with Variables on Each Side, Solve Multi-Step Equations
Week 11: Equations in Two Variables: Constant Rate of Change and Slope
Week 12: Equations in y = mx Form, Slope-Intercept Form

Material will be presented through exploring concepts and discovering relationships between mathematical concepts. There will be examples, practice and exploration. Students will be given an example or exploration activity, then will work with the instructor to understand problems then they will solve problems on their own. We will do fun interactive projects.

Homework will be assigned. Assessments will be used to track student progress. Please request a letter grade if required. Students should expect to spend 1 to 2 hours a week outside of class on homework.

Meet Course teacher

I have a Masters of Education and am a licensed math and English teacher. **I have been teaching online for five years!** I love the exploration of math and plan to explore it in all of my classes.

My term long classes (broken into two terms affordability) will include plenty of exploration but will also be courses that will allow students to understand and practice concepts. As far as core classes go I teach middle school math (6th, 7th, and 8th/pre-algebra), Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus. I have taught these in a brick and mortar school in the USA and international schools in Thailand and China.

I have taught ages 11 to 18 in a traditional classroom.

Feel free to request classes. I teach both integrated math as well as algebra, geometry, trignometry and statistics. Also, creative writing for fiction and nonfiction and young adult dystopian English classes.
